Setting Priorities Right

22nd June 2009

In this third statement we succinctly provide our understanding of the state of the Ethiopian

Nation, and close by indicating pointers where Ethiopia’s national priorities need to focus at the present time. The statement is based on the preliminary study that has been conducted by our Priorities Identification Task Force. The Task Force outlined three interrelated thematic areas.
 
They are (i) civil society and democratization; (ii) conflict prevention and resolution; and (iii)

governance and sovereignty. A number of complex issues are enveloped in the three thematic

areas. The details are available for review. The priority issues identification process is evolving, and innovative approaches to the process are welcome.


Declaration on Free and Fair Election in Ethiopia

15th May 2009

WHEREAS 15th May 2009 marks the fourth anniversary of Ethiopia’s ill fated election, in which elected parliamentarians were thrown to jail; at least 193 innocent individuals were killed; an unknown number of people were injured and exiled; over 40 000 supporters of opposition groups were imprisoned in remote internment camps; and the actors of this and other crimes against humanity continue to operate with impunity;

 The Launching of the Ethiopian National Priorities Consultative Process (ENPCP)

This first communiqué announces the launching of the Ethiopian National Priorities Consultative Process (ENPCP.) We are freely associated, non-partisan, non-profit civil society organizations (CSOs,) and individuals, that have been deliberating for over a year, with the initiative and support of the Ethiopian National Congress (ENC,) in order to forge genuine partnership, and unity of purpose and action.
